In a broad sense, it includes essays that are not based on logic and that do not contain proofs. In the narrowest sense, it is based on logical arguments and can include proofs.
Thoreau's logic style included citations to literature to support his points. Thoreau also used a short essay format where he allowed only three or four sentences to be the main part of the essay. Thoreau gave examples from everyday life to help the reader understand and relate the issues and questions. Although some people disagreed with him, his style of argument is generally used by many students today. Thoreau was known for using vivid images. One of his examples was the construction of the Maine house where he lived. He also discussed the river and its effect on the people who lived on it. If you watch one of his lectures, you will see him showing a tree falling from the sky. Thoreau liked writing short paragraphs and he wanted the reader to understand his point quickly. He made sure to use words in their correct order to make it easier for the reader to follow. His sentences were short and simple and had few words. Thoreau wrote many books on his life's work and they are very informative and inspiring. If you have read one of his books, you know that he accomplished a lot in his life and now he wrote a book to share it with others. Thoreau was known for being an example of being humble. He told us that he lived a simple life that included serving his community. He was raised by a simple father who fed him, clothed him, and took care of him. Thoreau went to a school that was on a boat that crossed the river. He later became a lawyer and held many positions in government. He was known for traveling around and getting involved in the community. He worked with people of all kinds, including women and children. Thoreau gave up his bank job because he did not want to compromise his ideals and work with unethical companies. Although he wrote about his life, it is his principle that he was trying to express. He believed in helping others and helping nature.
